Unlike many of the personality
inventories on the market, including the Neo-PIR, the MMPI, etc., the
SL-TDI is not intended to measure the presence or absence of psychological
pathology. In fact, the way the variables of the SL-TDI are defined and
measured, there can be no suggestion that one person's results are better
than another's. When one person's results are compared to another's, all
that can be said is that they are different from each other. Moreover,
there are no norms or standards which presume an appropriate or "normal"
range of functioning that are applied to the individual's results. The
individual is encouraged to understand his or her own results and use
self-knowledge to decide how he or she may or may not seek to influence
further development of her or his personality. This is in keeping with
Jung's emphasis on individuation which, roughly speaking, means becoming
all one can be-without assuming anyone can be "perfect."
